Not everyone is born with good communication skill. It can be acquired through training. The interesting fact is that we think that communication is all verbal but our body language and tone of voice are equally important.

How to Benefit from Communication Skills Training

Each one of us wants to develop good communication skill. This is mainly because at every point of life we need to communicate with others. It is one of the vital skills that we need to make our lives a success. Not every one born with very good communication skills but you can always acquire it. Communication skill is something that you need in both personal and professional. You might be surprised to realize that there are so many forms and styles of communication and with a little effort you can actually master them.

If you are not good at communication don’t worry because good communication can be a learned set of skills. Though people are born with some natural talents and given skills they can make each skill better by developing some good practice and communication skill is no exception.

As we all know there are various forms of communications that are taking place in our everyday society. Whether we like it or not we need to communicate. In earlier days people mostly communicated face to face or at the most through mails. Now we have so many options starting from mobile phones to Internet, TV commercials, ads and the list goes on and on.

But when we think of communication skills we usually think of verbal communication whether it is on phone or face-to-face interaction. Communication can significantly influence your relationship, career and your life as a whole. But we have a wrong conception. Communication is not only about saying or writing something.

Here is an interesting data (courtesy of Wikipedia) regarding interpersonal communication:

  • Body Language including gestures, postures and eye contact has 55% of impact.
  • Tone of voice has 38% of impact.
  • Contents or words used to communicate have 7% of impact.

Does anything strike you? Yes, you are right 7%. Our interpersonal communication is only 7% impacted by the words we choose to use. The rest of the influence is determined by our body language firstly and our tone of voice secondly. You can put it in this way that what you say is actually less important than how you say it. So if you think I am good at communication just because I have written this article let me rectify your mistake because the data shows very clearly the communication skill is much beyond than reading, writing and saying something.

Have you ever met a person who is an immigrant to a foreign land and don’t have any idea about the foreign language and still he has managed to grow a successful business. It is all because of his ability to communicate well crossing the boundaries set by language.

You can always improve your communication skill by joining a Communication Skills Training program. Choosing your words properly is very important. Other than that you need to learn the right body language and the right tone of voice as they provide the basis for good communication. Nonverbal communication along with verbal communication can make a successful human being.
