The Jaguar S-type was being produced during the period from 1998 to 2008. This was produced at Birmingham, England. The platforms on which this model of vehicle was produced were based on the Jaguar DEW platform and the Ford DEW platform. Even the Lincoln LS, which has gone out of production, was based on these platforms only.

Jaguar S Type Engines

The Jaguar S-type was being produced during the period from 1998 to 2008. This was produced at Birmingham, England. The platforms on which this model of vehicle was produced were based on the Jaguar DEW platform and the Ford DEW platform. Even the Lincoln LS, which has gone out of production, was based on these platforms only.

You can easily distinguish between the first S-types that lasted between 1999 and 2002 and the Jaguar S of period 1999 to 2008. The former was having the logo of Jaguar on the bonnet whereas the latter had it within the radiator grille.

It was in 2002 that the supercharged S-type R was introduced into the lineup. The company expected that it would give a tough competition to BMW's M5 and the Mercedes E55 AMG. The engine used on R was a 4.2 liter V8 that came with an Eaton M112 supercharger. This engine could produce a horsepower of 400 and could amazingly accelerate to 60 miles per hour within 5.6 seconds. It was considered the most expensive of all the S-type vehicles.

In the later models of the S-type R, the supercharger M112 came with a revised pulley system and this could increase the horsepower by 20.

The 2003 model used a 6-speed automatic ZF 6HP26 transmission and a revised 3.0 liter V6 engine and this could produce a horsepower of 235, as against the horsepower of 210 that was produced by the models brought out between 1999 and 2002.

In 2004, a minor face-lift and redesigning took place in the cars. A new 2.7 liter V6 diesel engine that could produce a horsepower of 207 was also introduced. There was a redesigning of the instruments also.

From model years 1999 to 2002, the S-Type rear-wheel-drive was equipped with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed J-Gate Ford 5R55N transmission. From 2003, the S-Type was produced with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed J-Gate transmission that allows automatic gear selection or clutchless manual gear selection. The 2004 diesel saw the introduction of a 6-speed manual transmission. This model was also available with the 6-speed J-Gate automatic transmission.

Several petrol and diesel engines were being used on the Jaguar S type vehicles during the entire production period. In the vehicles that were exported to countries like the United States and Canada, the 2.5 liter V6 engine was not used at all.

Between 2003 and 2005, a 2.5 liter V6 engine that could produce a horsepower of 201 was used. Additionally, a 3.0 liter V6 engine that could deliver a horsepower of 240 was also offered. During the period from 1999 to 2002, a 4.0 liter V8 engine producing a horsepower of 282 was being used. A 4.2 liter V8 engine was used between 2003 and 2008 and it could produce a horsepower of 300. Likewise, a 4.2 liter V8 supercharged 400 hp engine was used from 2003 to 2008. During the period from 2004 to 2008, a 2.7 liter V6 Twin-turbo diesel 207 bhp was used.

For getting a used or new or rebuilt and remanufactured engine for your Jaguar S type engine, you must find out a competent dealer who can try to guide you to get the most appropriate engine. If you give the VIN number of your vehicle, finding the exact engine will be all the more easier.
