There is a recent trend among the Muslim youth to refrain from marriage. The reasons are various, such as they do not want to shoulder the responsibilities that come with getting married or there is a doubt on the sacredness in the institution of an
Islamic marriage.
But contrary to the modern school of thought, Muslim marriage is intended with some specific purposes, which include spiritual peacefulness and partnering. The foundation of an Islamic marriage is a human's desires that are physical, spiritual, emotional and intellectual. The objectives of a marriage are listed below:
- According to believers nothing can be achieved singly and each action needs to be complemented with another action for a successful completion. The uniting of a man and woman through a marriage will remove the emptiness from their lives and they can achieve immense happiness from the wedlock.

- Reducing adultery is another aim of an Islamic marriage. When a man is married he restrains from looking at other women and conserves his chastity as he can legally satisfy all of his sexual desires.
- Marriage preserves the faiths of true Muslims and provides an opportunity to enjoy worldly pleasures. Islam believes enjoying worldly pleasures keeps the followers focused on the ultimate goals of soul upliftment and spiritual tranquillity.
- Being married is the basis of having a family and forms the central aspect in any society. Growing up in a loving and caring family atmosphere makes Muslim children safe and secured making them believe in the pureness of a Muslim marriage.
- An individual can expand his social horizons by getting married. This imbibes a feeling of co-operation among the society.
- Marriage brings maturity to a man and a woman’s character as they learn to take on responsibilities as spouse and a parent.
