Generally the family members of the girl put forth the proposal of a marriage to the boy’s family. Once the proposal is acceptable to both the families, an engagement ceremony is performed and this is followed by the marriage ceremony. The marriage of a Muslim girl is characterized by the dowry offered by the groom to his bride. This dowry is offered as a protection to the woman in the event of an unforeseen event after her marriage.
Another right that marriage of a Muslim woman brings is that she has to be financially supported by her husband even if she is rich with adequate money. But a Muslim man is allowed to get into a marriage with four Muslim girls as long as he can financially support them.
After the
marriage of a Muslim girl, the groom has to show his mother the bloodied sheets after the wedding night to prove the girl’s purity. This is a ghastly tradition because if this does not happen the girl is disgracefully sent back where she may be killed in the name of honour.
