If your child is begging you for a BMX, there is a chance you may well be worried about whether or not such a sport is going to be safe. After all, for many it is all about taking risks and performing stunts, and the last thing you want is to see your child hurt. So is it safe to get them such a bike, and do you need to spend a fortune to make sure they are safe or can you settle for a cheap BMX?
With the popularity of the sport rising all the time in the UK, it is not surprising that you child might want to get involved. After all, it is fun, exciting and very social. It is also a great way to get your child to exercise and keep active. So far, so good. But what about the stunts?
With the right equipment, BMX can be as safe as any other sport. In fact, sports such as rugby where there are no pads involved
are far more likely to lead to injuries than a sport where such protective gear is widely accepted. As they are learning, the chances are the tricks they will be trying to master are ones that will very rarely lead to any problems at all, and as their skills grow, the ability to perform the harder stints will in turn be increased, making sure that they are again less likely to have any problems at all.
Like with riding any bike, a certain amount of discipline will be needed, but no more than simply riding a mountain bike, and therefore, so long as they have the right protection you should have no need to worry. But do you have to spend a fortune to ensure safety? Not at all – one great thing about the sport is that a cheap BMX is all you will need, as these will be just as safe, and allow the rider to modify them over time to achieve the exact bike they want.
