In the UK, millions of people go to theme parks every year. In fact, last year 10 million went to one of the top ten theme parks, which is quite impressive considering that they are only open for six months of the year. Theme parks offer thrills, excitement and something for everyone, regardless of age. Most of the top theme parks have gardens, parks and even zoos, so young children and grandparents can enjoy their day out too.

The most popular theme parks are Alton Towers and Thorpe Park.

Alton Towers

Alton Towers is the most popular theme park in the UK with some of the best roller-coaster rides in the world. The names of the rides have been chosen to set the theme of the park, for example, Nemesis, Oblivion and Ripsaw but perhaps not Rita – Queen of Speed. These rides are not for the faint hearted, they are fast rides which spin, twist, push, pull and drop you from great heights. Alton Towers is more than just speed and thrills, it is a family theme park and as such has something for everyone. There are rides for young children, live shows and some lovely gardens. The park is split into several sections that are all easily accessible, in fact, you don't even have to walk if you take the cable car. The Alton Towers park is so big, there is too much to do in just one day, even if you were to buy a fast track ticket. Thankfully, the Alton Towers Hotel is on standby for those wanting to visit the park over a number of days. In addition, there is the Splash Landings Hotel which is a great place to have fun and unwind after a long day in the theme park.

Thorpe Park

Equally well known and definitely as popular, Thorpe Park offers as many rides and just as exciting. The park is split into several theme led lands, each with its own specific attraction. For example, the Lost City’s Vortex and Quantum or the Canada Creek Loggers Leep and Canada Creek Railway. The Colossus ride is a world record breaking 10 loop roller coaster ride where you sit in sideless trains and rise over 100ft before being sped down a 850m track at speeds of over 50mph. One of its most popular rides at Thorpe Park is the Tidal Wave, which drops 85ft into a huge wall of water. The park itself is easily reached as it is sited between junctions 11 and 13 of the M25 and is open from March to November each year, usually opening for the first time just before the Easter holiday. Ticket prices start from £25 for children to £35 for adults but you can get cheap tickets by following this link.
