Fashion myths have been doing its rounds
for decades now, and many people still believe them. These same people
are too afraid to a commit fashion faux pas therefore follow these myths.
Here we debunk some common fashion myths:
Myth 1: Never wear horizontal stripes
Truth: Horizontal stripes are fine
if you have narrow shoulders, a small bust or narrow hips. If you have
a large bust or hips, opt for solids or vertical stripes instead.
Myth 2: Baggy clothes hide unwanted
curves
Truth: Baggy clothes do nothing to
hide your flaws, but instead make you look even bigger. Instead, wear
outfits that skim your body to create a slimmer silhouette.
Myth 3: Short women should not wear
long dresses
Truth: I'm sure many women would disagree,
but the common fashion myth is that short women should not wear long
dresses. The key to pulling off a maxi dress is to choose dresses in
lightweight fabrics and complement it with a pair of stylish heels -
wedges are usually a great option.
Myth 4: If you have the correct
size, the garment should fit you well
Truth: Different designers and manufacturers
work with different size scales, therefore it is important to fit on
the garment before you purchase it. Most designers work with averages,
but we all know that every woman is different. Different styles in the
same size fit differently from store to store, so don't be afraid to
go up or down a size to get the right fit.
Myth 5: Never wear denim with denim
Truth: It is perfectly acceptable to
wear a denim jackets with a denim jeans or skirt, just make sure the
denim is different washes.
Myth 6: You bag and shoes need to
match
Truth: If you like the old-fashioned,
safe look, go ahead and match. But if you want an ultra modern look
a la Carrie Bradshaw, then try a hot colour combination. Just make sure
you choose complementary colours or choose a colour from a blouse, dress
or skirt you are wearing.
Myth 7: Leggings can be worn as
pants
Truth: This is one fashion faux pas
you don't want to make. Leggings were meant to be a modern substitute
to the traditional tights. Pair your leggings with a long tunic, blouse,
or shirt dress, and do not wear it with a tiny t-shirt or anything that
does not cover your butt.
When is comes to ladies fashion designs
everyone has their own personal list of dos and don’ts. If you stay
true to your personal sense of style you can pull off just about anything
with the right attitude. Fashion should be fun, and by following silly
fashion myths, you limit yourself. Create your own fashion rules that
work for you and embrace yourself by ignoring society norms. Have fun
with fashion.
